Sculptra
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator treatment composed of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) that restores facial volume, reduces deep wrinkles and improves skin firmness and quality by stimulating the body’s own natural collagen production.
It is not a dermal filler. It does not add direct volume. Instead, it gradually restores facial volume by encouraging the body’s own collagen production in areas like the cheeks and temples, therefore improving around the eyes, the jawline as well as firmness in the lower face. Sculptra works gradually to rebuild skin structure, with results appearing over several months and lasting up to 2 years.
Why Choose Sculptra?
1. Long-Lasting Results: takes effect within 2-3 months and results can last up to 2 years, making it a cost-effective option for those seeking prolonged results.
2. Natural Appearance: The gradual stimulation of collagen ensures a subtle enhancement, avoiding the overfilled look associated with some other fillers. You will look fresher and firmer by refreshing your own facial structure, rather than looking or feeling ‘done’ or overfilled.
3. Minimal Downtime: Most patients experience little to no downtime, allowing them to resume daily activities shortly after treatment.
Who is an ideal candidate for Sculptra?
Sculptra is suitable for most men and women especially those starting to see early-to-moderate, age-related structural changes in the face. It is great for adults seeking to restore lost facial volume, improve their skin laxity or treat lines and wrinkles through gradual and natural collagen stimulation without any downtime of surgery.
What does the treatment involve?
Most people will have a course of 3 treatments performed by Dr Helen at 4-6 week intervals. Then, 1 per year is usually recommended to maintain results.
Treatment involves placing the product under the skin with a fine cannula causing minimal discomfort. Dr Helen will massage the area and show you how to do this for yourself at home following treatment - 5 minutes x 5 times per day x 5 days. This is ESSENTIAL
What are the risks of treatment?
Your biggest risk is a small bruise – bruising is always a risk when a needle enters the skin.
HOWEVER – your massage at home is vital. This prevents complications. Massage prevents the formation of nodules and helps to distribute the product within the skin.
Important Considerations
Sculptra isn’t for everyone. If you think you won’t do the massage, then don’t have the treatment. It isn’t a quick fix like dermal filler. The results take several weeks-months and are gradual. Commitment is required as you will most likely need 3 initial sessions and will not see or get optimal results after 1 treatment.
Sculptra is not surgery. It does a lot but it is not a facelift. We love it. Ask Helen and Gail as they have both had a course of treatments.
